Hope Mill Conservation Area

The Hope Mill Conservation Area is located along the Indian River near Lang, Ontario, and offers opportunities for nature walks and exploration of Ontario’s heritage. The area is centered around the historic Hope Mill, built in 1835, which remains an operational water-powered sawmill today. Volunteers operate the Hope Mill museum and provide workshops, demonstrations, and ongoing events from mid-April to late October.

Visit the Museum

The mission of the Hope Mill is to preserve and promote knowledge of 19th century water-powered wool and lumber milling technology through the safe demonstration of operating heritage equipment and sharing of historical archives while fostering a cooperative environment for Hope Mill volunteers.

 

 

Come to Hope Mill Conservation Area and enjoy hiking, nature and wildlife viewing. 

The Hope Mill Conservation Area hiking trail is a 1.2 km loop that takes visitors along the shore of the Indian River and through a mix of forest and open spaces. The trail offers an easy walk for most skill levels and is popular for those seeking a short hike. The trail is located at 3456 Hope Mill Road, 200 metres east of the Hope Sawmill.

 

There is no overnight camping at Hope Mill Conservation Area.

Fires are not permitted.
