Now Available - 2023 Annual Report & Audited Financial Statements

 

Otonabee Conservation released their 2023 Annual Report to the Watershed Community, at their board meeting on April 18th. The report highlights last year’s accomplishments, thanks donors for their contributions, and gives supporters a better understanding of the Conservation Authority’s impact.

“It is with great pleasure that we present Otonabee Conservation’s Annual Report to the Watershed Community, which highlights our collaborative contributions in 2023,” shares Otonabee Conservation Board of Directors Chair, Michael Metcalf, “The report celebrates the shared successes of partners, community members, staff, and the board of directors, as we carry out important work together in the Otonabee Region watershed.”

Highlights from 2023 include:

  • 854 planning and permitting inquiries, 391 permits issued, and 99.7% of those within the required timeline standards.
  • 21 flood messages issued; the water response team met 1 time but did not issue any low water messages.
  • 24,459 campers at our 3 campgrounds and 13, 600 day-use visitors at Warsaw Caves CA last year.
  • Planted 1,033 trees and shrubs at 5 locations across the watershed. Additionally, 12,075 trees were purchased and planted by residents through the Tree Seedling Sales Program.
  • Completed and released floodplain mapping for Thompson Creek; 850 hours were spent engineering new models for floodplain mapping in 2023 and staff competed over 1,200 hours of surveying!
  • 100 for Harold Town fundraising campaign was launched and raised around $16,000 of donations for enhancements to Harold Town Conservation Area that will commence this year.

“The 2023 Annual Report captures our achievements as we face the challenges of climate change and bring people together to ensure a safer, more resilient watershed for all,” states Janette Loveys Smith, CAO at Otonabee Conservation.

In addition, Otonabee Conservation’s auditor, Adam Delle Cese from BDO attended the board meeting to present the 2023 Audited Financial Statements. Otonabee Conservation is responsible for ensuring the annual audit is prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles by the Public Sector Accounting Board of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada. With careful management of public funds, Otonabee Conservation achieved a positive year end.
